The WS-60 Slider Saves You Money!

Have you ever seen the cab of a semi truck violently rocking back and forth as the driver changes the position of his loaded 5th wheel?

What you can’t see when this is happening is the stress it puts on the clutch, transmission, driveline, rear-ends and axles. Much of the time, the damage done while sliding a loaded 5th wheel will not be seen until down the road when components fail, costing valuable time and money.

The WS-60 saves valuable time, which translates into money. No longer do you need to get out of the truck to lower your trailer, or crank down landing gear to take the load off in order to slide your wheel.  With the WS-60, simply flip the switch in the cab and slide the 5th wheel with ease—
No More Abusing the Drivetrain.

EXTREME DUTY DESIGN â€” The WS-60 has been designed to slide your 5th wheel under heavy load in all weather conditions. Our self-cleaning outside rail tooth design, working in combination with our UHMW inserts, allows you to slide extreme weights while under load. With the WS-60 Slide you have the ability to choose the 5th wheel that you prefer. The top of the slider plate is designed flat and smooth to accept all brands of wheels.

CONSTRUCTION â€” When looking at the construction of our slides, you will see that we have casted all major components including the teeth and dogging system. Our slide design is an extreme duty slide, with more than 8 years testing in the field.

INSTALLATION â€” Installation of our slide is simple and can be done in one day. The WS-60 slider comes to you pre-welded and complete. After positioning the 5th wheel rails where you want them, simply clamp the rails to your frame with C clamps. You then lay the slider plate down and insert your dogging teeth to align the rails to the slider. Once the alignment is done you are ready to mark where to drill the holes in the WS-60 5th wheel rails.

We recently spoke with Steve Jones of Cats Heavy Haul in Penticton, BC about his use of the WS-60 Slider. Steve has been operating big trucks for more than 30 years and has owned Cats Heavy Haul for nearly a decade.

OMH: When did you install your first WS-60 Sliders? Are they still in use?

Steve: We bought the first two and installed them in June 2005. One truck has 1 million kilometers on it and the slider is still in use. The other truck was sold with the working slider when it had 300 kilometers on it.

OMH: What kind of machines do you move with trucks with the WS-60?

S: Forestry and construction equipment, anything that goes on a lowbed. I haul equipment so this is excellent for me but it's also a good application for logging trucks. It's multi use. You could use this slide on any truck.

OMH: What are the biggest machines you move? The heaviest?

S: Log loaders and ATV and truck-mounted cranes are the biggest. We haul loads up to 45 metric tons.

OMH: What are the advantages of the WS-60 over a standard 5th wheel slide?

  • S: The UHMW polyethylene strip that rests between the plate and rails. This is a very integral part of the operation of the Waycon Slider because this is what the slider actually slides on. Other sliders are metal on metal.
  • Nothing on the Waycon Slide wears out. Over time, the little wear there is on the locking system makes it even more secure.
